Arizona sports betting goes live and shows promising signs for the future

A combined total of 6.1 million bets and log ins between September 9 and September 12 were recorded in Arizona, with 271,000 new Arizona sportsbook accounts created in those four days.

The sports betting landscape in Arizona has experienced major change in the month of September. The state officially launched legal online sports wagering on September 9, after months of preparation.

The sports betting launch coincided with the opening night of the new NFL Football season, which resulted in impressive sportsbook activity as many expected. A combined total of 6.1 million bets and log ins were recorded between September 9 and September 12 according to GeoComply. A staggering 271,000 new Arizona sportsbook accounts were created in that timeframe.

Consequently, Arizona was the fourth-most productive on NFL opening weekend in terms of overall online sportsbook activity. This was behind Michigan in third and ahead of Illinois in fifth.

Due to recent updates to the state’s gambling laws this month, Arizona is now fourth in the Wedge Index. The Grand Canyon State has jumped 32 places since its introduction of legal online sports wagering, now sandwiched between Pennsylvania and Indiana.
