Barstool Sportsbook set to launch in Illinois on Thursday

Illinois will become the third state for the Barstool Sportsbook app when they launch on Thursday

Barstool Sportsbook is set to launch in Illinois this weekend, making it the third state to offer the Penn National Gaming backed online betting app.

The Barstool app is one of the newest products on the US legal sportsbook market but they have already made huge strides in Pennsylvania, where they are now the third biggest operator. They launched on the first day of legal sports betting in Michigan and instantly hit big numbers in the Wolverine State, taking in $27 million in handle in the first nine days of operation at the end of January.

Illinois is now the third state for the Barstool Sportsbook app and it represents a huge market. It is the fourth biggest legal sports betting market as of Q4 of 2020 and is one of the biggest opportunities for the Barstool brand.

The company, based originally out of Milton in Massachusets has a headquarters in New York but also a strong presence in Chicago with offices in the Windy City and some key personalities in the company based out of the city. Dave Portnoy’s second in command at the company, Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz founded Barstool Chicago in 2012 and the power of that brand was referenced in a statement by Penn National Gaming President and CEO Jay Snowden:

“We are extremely excited to launch our online Barstool Sportsbook in Illinois just as the college basketball regular season wraps up and bettors begin their preparations for March Madness,” he said.

“Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz started Barstool Chicago in 2012 and has worked with Chief, Eddie, Carl, and ‘White Sox’ Dave to develop a tremendous following across the state by covering all things Windy City through daily blogs and social media content, including the immensely popular ‘Red Line Radio’ podcast. As the only gaming operator with a fully integrated sports media and entertainment partner, our customers in Illinois will now be able to engage with these Barstool personalities through the online Barstool Sportsbook and enjoy their unique take on Chicago sports.”

The launch of the Barstool app in Illinois will take place on Thursday March 11 and will feature live broadcasts from the Hollywood Casino all weekend.

The launch has been timed to coincide with the NCAA ‘March Madness’ Tournament and the launch of the Barstool Sportsbook app will include special promotions involving the upcoming basketball betting bonanza. It will also feature a $1000 Risk Free Bet for new customers and enhanced odds on Chicago baseball franchises the Cubs and White Sox.
