ANALYSIS: New Jersey sets Online Gambling record in August to cement position atop Wedge Index

New Jersey once again proved it deserves to sit atop the Wedge Index after taking a record breaking $664 million in sports and casino bets in August.

A total of $664 million was wagered in the state of New Jersey in August, smashing the previous monthly betting record in America of $614 million in Nevada in 2019.

This was heartening for the Garden State, particularly with the Atlantic City Casinos operating at just 25% capacity.

“Recovery is underway, even with continuing travel advisories that decreased visits from out of state,” said James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

“Atlantic City’s casino win was almost 70 percent of last August’s strong performance, although the months are not reasonably comparable because of restrictions on capacity, amenities, and entertainment.”

These numbers show the advantage of legal online sports betting and legal online casino betting for a state, as well as the kind of ‘open door’ digital policy which has seen 24 sportsbook apps launch in New Jersey.

The state is now America’s home of sports betting and fully justifying its place as number one in the Wedge Index.
